AL-KO KHS3700

Wood Splitter: AL-KO KHS3700      £249.95

STAR BUY

What you get: A hydraulic log splitter with 1800w electric motor, a 4-tonne splitting force and transport wheels.

We Like: This is amazing. Simply place your log into the machine, operate both controls simultaneously and it slowly applies four tonnes of pressure on to the timber, splitting it cleanly and neatly into two. You can even make kindling sticks from a log with this. The safety mechanisms are impressive, you need both hands to operate it so you can't get one trapped and it works slowly so you are completely in control of what you are doing. You need to have roundels of wood (logs) already cut to feed into it, but it is very easy to use - and mercifully quiet.

We don't like: This model needs to be deployed on the ground or on a solid workbench; the next model up has legs. It's heavy, though the transport wheels help. Painfully slow to use, but for a good reason.

Good for: Anyone who is too tired or too old, or simply not strong enough to raise an axe and chop wood.

Performance: Awesome

Value for money: Excellent
